Visual diversity: Is painting an indicator of lost learning theory?

In Australian vocational education and training (VET) there is a unit of competency called Produce Painting, the elements of which can loosely be described as; prepare resources, explore techniques, and 'realize painting' (NTIS). The unit serves to highlight how painting; 1) is associated with ideas of production, and 2) is approached as a subject rather than a learning catalyst, or way of learning. I propose to work the canvas of this presentation, drawing on a painter's methodology, which means I will be moving backwards and forwards between different ideas, developing them in relation to each other across the presentation. I will use hypermedia and video constructions from my doctoral research to show how painting can be linked to learning and construction of knowledge for visual learners, more generally.
