Abstract
The inaugural meeting of the first Sports Union was held on 17 May, 1938. At this time the Sports Union assumed control of the University College's tennis courts at 'Booloominbah', and an annual membership fee was fixed at ten shillings. The first purchase ever made by the NEUC Sports Union was a pair of boxing gloves! A Constitution was adopted on 4 July, 1938, providing for a President to be elected by the NEUC staff and a Committee of six students. In 1939, there was an unsuccessful proposal that the Sports Union should amalgamate with the University Union.
