There's a nappy in my school bag: E-learning for two generations

'E-Learning for Two Generations', as I have called my Fellowship project, was a case study of ICT usage and potential set in a teen parent unit, Te Whare Whai Hua, in a Gisborne High School. The study investigated the parents and their teachers as they came to grips with the extent and ways in which ICTs could support the educational needs of teenage mothers. Students used ICTs in a number of ways in the centre, and in particular the teachers trialled an 'online classroom' using Interact. The mothers and teachers in the study concluded that e-Learning has great potential for these young parents, especially in terms of the potential to promote social relationships, critical thinking and flexible learning for students who of necessity have gaps in attendance. They found that ICTs could also potentially enhance the parents' engagement with their child's learning.
