Abstract

Henry George's arguments for a land-value tax (LVT) have been subjected to many criticisms over the years. This paper will be concerned with criticisms on the following themes: 1. Community-created values and unearned increments 2. Equal rights to land and land value 3. The Single Tax 4. Private property rights in land 5. Ability to pay 6. The land-rich-and-income-poor problem 7. Is the LVT practicable?
