Abstract
This session will explore how the law is used to regulate occupational health and safety. The entire course is intended to assist you to implement the 'Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993' and soon, the Act of 2000 so I wont take you through those acts in detail. My aim today is to identify other areas of law that impact on occupational health and safety and explain how these laws interact. The areas I will talk about are: • The common law and in particular, the law of negligence • Workers Compensation • The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and • Industry Codes of practice and Australian Standards.
