The Expulsion of Jews from Spain

The modern nation-state of Spain did not exist in the medieval period. Instead, the Iberian Peninsula wasdivided into different Christian kingdoms - Castile, Aragon, Navarre and Portugal - and the Islamic kingdom of Granada(Figure 1). The marriage of Queen Isabel of Castile and King Fernando of Aragon, however, created a dynastic union between the twolargest Christian kingdomsthat laid the foundations of modern Spain.
