    Abstract

Over the past couple of years, a comprehensive high school in a small, rural, relatively isolated, economically depressed community has carried out a review of thecurriculum which it offers to its students. Part of this review concerned thecurriculum which was offered to gifted students. In order to set this review within itseducational context, an appraisal was conducted of the NSW Department ofEducation’s current policies and practices in the education of gifted students, and theprogrammes and provisions available for gifted students attending NSW publicschools.
