Abstract

Since 1986, the Australian Journal of Emergency Management (AJEM) has evolved alongside the emergency and disaster sectors in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Originating as The Macedon Digest, it has transitioned from a newsletter to an outward-facing, internationally recognised scholarly journal. Its content has shifted from practice-based reporting to evidence-based research, evaluation and policy analysis and from a civil-defence focus to a community shaped, resilience-oriented approach. AJEM plays a significant role in leading the conceptual development of emergency and disaster management.
