This article analyzes the current status, risks, and impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on smallholder livestock farming in Laos, based on survey data collected from 221 households in 2022 and analyzed with Stata 14 software. The research results show that most livestock in Laos is raised traditionally, mainly relying on natural forage. The main production costs are for feed, veterinary services, and breeding stock, with adult animals accounting for the highest proportion. The cost-to-value ratio reaches 46.8% and the profit-to-livestock value ratio is 31.9%. Disease outbreaks, particularly Covid-19, have resulted in increased feed and veterinary costs, and outbreaks have caused a decrease in productivity and livestock numbers. The pandemic disrupted input supply and livestock product outlets, reducing production volumes and selling prices. The findings emphasize the need for appropriate policy interventions to enhance efficiency and resilience in smallholder livestock production in Laos.
