Abstract
Chemistry at the University of New England (UNE) is implementing three strategies to attract and retain enrolments in the chemistry majors in the Bachelor of Science. The first strategy is engagement with rural and regional schools, the second is the introduction of associated 'lighthouse' programs and the third is providing a learning environment that maximises flexibility in catering for different personal circumstances and learning modes. It is hoped these strategies will lead to increased student numbers and enhanced research capabilities in all areas of science and technology across the university. These strategies are transferrable to other science majors and courses at UNE.
