Abstract

Antibiotics are commonly used to treat many diseases of livestock, yet antibiotic resistance is of increasing concern globally. Therefore, alternatives for the prevention and treatment of disease are required. Compounds that stimulate the innate immune system to 'kick into gear' and enhance its ability to fight off infection have potential to be used as alternatives to antibiotics.
