Abstract
Premiering three newly interpreted electro-acoustic compositions, and one new world premiere, Sounding Spaces is an immersive original, spatial-sounding program that redefines environments. This captivating sonic journey around the world takes audiences from eerie underground tunnels beneath Southbank, Melbourne, through Armidale NSW and the New England region, to the Yerebatan Cistern Istanbul, this program is described as ‘captivating of unearthing of sonic archaeologies’. This semi-improvised, multimedia, electroacoustic program performed by Alana Blackburn and Ros Bandt consists of 5 works, each based on experimental improvisation between different recorders, or contrabass recorder and Tarhu - a unique combination not heard before - in response to fixed audio media or fixed visual/audio media. Each work represented a specific environmental or geographical site, which formed the basis of the fixed media, spatially presented in either 8 channel or 5.1 surround sound.
