Abstract

There is a long tradition of primary teachers struggling with science and technology education. This often manifests itself in a lack of confidence in their ability to teach science and technology and in a general dislike of this discipline. Creating the right learning environment in science and technology is of vital importance and the literature on self-regulated learning (SRL) suggests that SRL offers effective ways of achieving this. This paper provides an overview of SRL before describing an SRL project undertaken with first year Bachelor of Education (Primary) students in science and technology.
