Abstract
Paeoniflorin is one of the bioactive ingredients of the roots of 'Paeonia lactiflora' (Paeoniaceae). A comparative study ofprocessed and non-processed commercial samples of dried roots of 'P. lactiflora' indicated a very low level of paeoniflorin in theprocessed sample and the formation of a new more polar component, sodium paeoniflorin sulphonate, during treatment of theroots with sulphiting agents.
