Abstract

This highly accessible textbook - by an English author - a in deservedly acclaimed series is unique in offering hands-on practical experience of textual analysis focussed on the language of politics. It is concerned to show how language is used by contemporary politicians and is an important part of the wider process of political discourse. Its particular foci include: • how both politicians and commentators describe political stances • exploration of linguistic features commonly found in political speeches • analysis of electioneering by print, posters, etc. • how politicians answer questions and • examples of political discourse in the United Kingdom, America and Australia.
