Push Don't Pull: The Use of Email in an External Unit

Abstract

Computers in Education was probably the first unit to go online at UNE; it has been available to both internal and external students since 1995. During this time, the server has delivered course material and it has been used to provide online tutorials, tests, forums and student web pages as well as being a site for publishing students' work. However, none of these facilities has been used extensively by the majority of students; and so, it could be argued that this gap has occurred because students have had to go to the server and 'pull' down information, something that is easy to forget to do. For the last three semesters, the Unit Coordinator has sent regular e-mail messages
