Abstract

This book makes a valuable contribution to the already extensive literature on 'reflection', 'reflective practice' and the 'reflective practitioner' in the professions. A strength of the book is the inclusion of practical strategies to encourage the development of reflective practice, especially by educators and mentors. An extensive summary of the main developments in the field of reflective practice in teacher education is included, as well as empirical research by one of the chapter authors. New conceptualisations of reflection and reflective practice complement the reporting of theory and practice. To help reduce confusion, a list of terms provides descriptions of common terms and alternative terms that are often used in the literature. The book is suitable for use by educators and mentors in a range of professions, and in both the pre-employment and in-service phases of a professional career.
