Abstract

Introduction: Individual birthweight is the primary determinant for preweaning survival of piglets (Alves et al., 2018) and fostering has been widely adopted to reduce the detrimental effects of low birthweight due to high litter size on survival (Heim et al., 2012). The hypothesis of this study was that both birthweight and timing of fostering events affect survival outcomes of individual piglets.
