Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

In September 1949, the Australian music journal 'The Canon' published a jubilee tribute issue in honour of composer Arnold Schoenberg's seventy-fifth birthday. The issue is remarkable for the quality and variety of contributions and for the 'time capsule' that the issue presents of views towards Schoenberg and his music and towards Modernism in Australia. Drawing on unpublished correspondence between Shoenberg and the 'Canon' editors, this article focuses on significant contributions in the jubilee issue and the role of the issue in the reception of Shoenberg's music in the immediate post-war years in Australia.
