Abstract

...there has long been a set of associations, especially in English counties, between individual/community (deadly) fear and the apparition/notion of the black dog. Recent years have seen an extension of the image to Australia. It will be convenient to treat of these developing phases in the English/Australian folk memory in some form of sequence.
