Abstract
This paper argues that values underpin learning and the application of that learning in communities of practice. A model of teaching is proposed for pre-service Children's Service students which emphasises the role of values in students' learning. Planning class content and delivery around the proposed model is demonstrated to result in short-term attitude change. There are indications that longer-term changes have also occurred.
