Letters to the Editor on the Sex Trade: Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields Newspapers, 1896–1904

Letters to the editors of Federation Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields newspapers tell of local reader and resident views toward the sex trade industry. To date, the Goldfields literature has neglected this important field of research that not only provides an insight into Federation community views toward newspaper reporting on prostitution but also shows how newspaper gatekeeping upheld the White Christian hegemonic value system of the community.
