Abstract
The article is a study of Abbé d'Aubignac's ideas regarding the external structure of tragedy, specifically in relation to the concepts of acts, entr'actes and scenes. The three plays attributed to the author, 'La Pucelle d'Orléans' (1642), 'La Cyminde ou les deux victimes' (1642) and 'Zénobie' (1647), enable us to analyse d'Aubignac's practice in the context of his dramatic theories. Integral components of the external structure of a play, acts, entr'actes and scenes contain elements that pose a distinct challenge for the author, in his capacity as both theorist and dramatist.
