Abstract
The theme of travel in the work of Marguerite Yourcenar - a theme that corresponds to personal predilection of this amateur travel writer - has often been discussed in critical essays. Yet there are still aspects of this theme which should be analyzes. This article explores travel in imaginary memories of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, who reigned from the year 117 to the year 124 and whose principality was characterized by his frequent trips to all parts of his vast empire. The structure studied here - 'Memoires d'Hadrien' - Book premium, was published in 1951. Based on a characteristic of the emperor, supported by a poem he wrote just before his death, Marguerite Yourcenar infuses a playful character to the musings of the emperor on his travels. This penchant for the game, part of a rich Roman tradition which we will discuss in this essay will be established in the light of other aspects of travel of the emperor.
