Abstract

International law regulating the use of ocean space, usually referring to public rather private law. Although one of the oldest branches of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 now contains many of the principles governing coastal state SOVEREIGNTY and maritime zones, navigation, fishing, environment protection, marine science, deep seabed mining and dispute settlement.
