Abstract
"Fifty cents, please.' Nell waited, palm ready, while the woman rummaged in her purse for coins. With her tongue poking out Nell took the money and carefully pressed the right buttons on the old cash register. The money drawer slid open with a 'ting'. She looked up, feeling pleased with herself. Now she was ten she was finally allowed to serve in the shop. Through the cake shop window she saw her older sister Johanna walk past with her friend Sally. Nell threw the coins into the till, slammed it shut and raced after them. 'Where are you going?"
