Abstract

The social impacts of leisure, recreation, and tourism concern the manner in which these activities can effect changes in the individual and collective value systems, the BEHAVIOUR patterns, the COMMUNITY structures, the LIFESTYLE and the QUALITY OF LIFE of the people involved. In principle, these impacts could relate just as much to the visitors as to the hosts of the activities in question. In practice, the focus of attention in relation to the social impacts of leisure, recreation, and tourism is invariably on the host community and on what an influx of visitors does to that community.
