Abstract

She decides to leave. At first she argues. There's still time, she says, to run. There's no reason for their staying, they've moved on before, eluded the police a dozen times. All they need is a decent car, new names. They could drive down the coast, up the coast, out west, anywhere. Get work. Go clean. A new life. But no, he says. Not this time. This is the end, he says, it's over. Over. She can leave, he tells her, anytime she wants and maybe he'd be better off. He's going down, he says, no risk about that. But he's going down a hero.
