N2 - In March 2009 conference delegates converged in Salzburg, Austria, to explore the theme 'Evil, Law and the State.' This annual conference is an integral facet of the 'Ethics, Evil, Law and the State' project supported by Inter-Disciplinary.Net. It was a truly interdisciplinary conference, with attendees representing history, political science, communication, law, philosophy and many other disciplines. On closing the three-day conference there was consensus that a themed edited book would offer a genuinely important contribution to the existent literature in the area. The chapters published in this book were selected from the 30 presentations delivered over the duration of the conference.
