Abstract

Migration of health professionals including physicians is of growing concern globally because of its impact on health systems in developing and developed countries alike. Migration can occur both with countries or nationally impacting upon the recruitment and retention of the medical workforce. International medical graduates (IMGs) constitute 23-28 percent of the physicians in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia and lower income countries supply 40-75 percent of these IMGs.
