Abstract

The EMBRACE Culture in kindy programs aims to increase kindergarten participation for children from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds. The program works with community-based organisations in 14 priority locations across Queensland to provide support to both kindergartens and local communities. In the last two years the EMBRACE program has promoted cultural diversity through professional development for educators, resource development and information dissemination. The team has also worked to remove barriers to kindergarten participation through policy development and supporting strong linkages between community and the early childhood sector. The EMBRACE team will share their learnings and experiences about embedding culturally diverse practices to create kindergarten programs that are culturally safe, culturally inclusive and culturally appropriate.
