Introduction. Use of estrogen-based hormone therapy to prevent cognitive impairment is controversial. Most hormone replacement contains estrogens and/or progestogens, with estradiol being the most commonly used estrogen. Aims. To systematically review the evidence on the effects of estrogen replacement therapy on cognitive function in older women.
