Discovering Landers Pocket in Nudgee: shaping the historian, analogue detritus in digital research, and the early history of Edmund Lander

The Commonwealth of Australia compulsorily acquired land across North-east Brisbane in 1974 for the Brisbane Airport redevelopment. Memorialisation of this event is frequently oriented around the bayside community of Cribb Island while overlooking the other suburbs affected, including the mostly agricultural Lower Nudgee, and the ungazetted locality of Landers Pocket. Save for passing references in select literature, little research has addressed the locality of Landers Pocket, and none of its namesake. Until 1980, it was located eastward of Nudgee Road in Banyo, between the Kedron Brook Floodway and beneath the parking areas adjacent to the Nancy Bird Way roundabout near the airport's international terminal. Today, the name persists as a drain west of Moreton Drive (formerly Airport Drive), and a brewery at the Brisbane Airport.
