Deforestation, Forest Policy, and Government Inaction

Deforestation is manifestation of increasing exploitation of forest resource for human needs. This has been a worldwide phenomenon, and has become acute in third world countries like India. Even though the forest Policy to safeguard forest resource by conservation and protection has continued since 1890s in India. The objective was to preserved forest so that future generation can use fuelwood and timber. The present book analysis deforestation from political angle. This is based on the fact that actual causes of deforestation may be located in political arena. Political actors intervene and make political choices. This book is outcome of research study undertaken as a student of Politics and Public administration where study was conducted to a specific region and efficiency of local forest administration to handle such Forest Department has been evaluated in the study.
