Abstract
The two girls are at their grandmother's house. It is the day before Christmas, and tomorrow they will wake up early in their shared bed - at four, maybe five in the morning - will wake and sit up straightbacked, goosefleshed, highpitched with anticipation. For it will be Christmas day, and soon, soon, they will see their mother. 'Deck the halls with boughs of holly ....'
