Comment on 'Horizontal localization and speech intelligibility with bilateral and unilateral hearing aid amplification' by S. Köbler and U. Rosenhall

    Abstract

    Köbler & Rosenhall (2002) report that, among experienced hearing aid users, moderately better horizontal plane (HP) localization ability was observed under conditions of listening with two hearing aids versus one hearing aid, consistent with general expectations. They also noted that their results do not confirm the findings of Byrne, Noble & Lepage (1992). Byrne et al reported that in people whose average hearing losses were less than 50 dB (4F), and who were experienced in using just one hearing aid (n=23), HP localization ability was no different from that of experienced bilateral users with similar (mild) losses (n=23).
