Abstract
Approaches to solving environmental problems rely increasingly on asking local communities to solve their own environmental problems, often with minimal government support and little training in how best to proceed. The process outlined here could be used with community groups to identify and resolve a variety of natural resource management issues, such as native vegetation management or water reform. I will demonstrate this process by drawing on insights experienced while conducting a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) project on farmers' understanding of soil health.
