Abstract
The territorial sea of Australia, which extends to 12 nautical miles (except in parts of the Torres Strait) from the low water line or straight baselines drawn across features such as bays, and its internal waters. SOVEREIGNTY in the territorial sea vests in the Commonwealth: 'Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973' (Cth). 'See Law of the Sea Convention 1982' Arts 2-13 and 'NSW v Cth ('Seas and Submerged Lands Case')' (1975) 135 CLR 337.
