"Folklore cannot be understood only by looking at it within the context of a single culture." --'Acknowledgement', in the Introductory Section to 'The Greenwood Encyclopedia of World Folklore and Folklife'. Westport, CN/ London: Greenwood Press, 2005-6. ... Let us start with a seeming digression.
