Abstract
The categories of directionality in Chinese and English each have their own respective characteristics, which become obvious after a comparison has been made. The object of comparison is to discover the nature of contradictions: our initial concern is with the differences, not the similarities between the two languages, but in the process of the comparison we have tried to discover the general characteristics of the relations between them. In short, the comparison is intended to help foreign and Chinese students learn to use and master these grammatical forms.
