Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to present the prevalent controversies in the area of school integration of students with ASC, with particular emphasis on the legislation, the research findings and the theoretical positions about inclusion. The author discusses the cognitive and social benefits of inclusion for students with ASC together with the methodological weaknesses of the existing relevant research. In addition, the author elaborates on the essential prerequisites (peers' awareness, parental attitudes, curriculum adaptations) for the successful inclusion of this group of students.
