Greek and Roman antiquity is, as is well known, very evident in the work of Marguerite Yourcenar. If her monumental work: "Hadrian's memoirs," published in 1951, constitutes, in a way, the apogee of her predilection for Greece and Rome of the past, it is true that the writer's strong interest in this period is clearly revealed in these imaginary memoirs of this Roman emperor of the second century A.D. and Southwood demonstrates how this interest continues to be apparent in Yourcenar's work.
