Sulphonylureas as adjunct therapy for Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease

Project Details

Description

Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for preventing the progression of ARF to RHD. Currently, there are no specific treatments or vaccines available to stop ARF/RHD. It is hypothesised that treatment of ARF/RHD with sulphonylureas prevents the development of cardiac damage and further disease progression. Therefore, this study aims to determine the efficacy of Glyburide (a sulphonylurea) and its derivative, MCC950, as a targeted therapy for ARF/RHD using the RHD rat model developed at UNE.
