Description
The lack of broad scale mapping of soybean crops in Australia has resulted in uncertainty in accurately quantifying the spatial distribution and area (size) of the industry. Mapping the current extent of soybean crops across Queensland provides industry and stakeholders with essential baseline data that supports improved decision-making at multiple scales.
In addressing this data gap, the University of New England’s Applied Agricultural Remote Sensing Centre (AARSC) has been contracted by the QDAF to map the location and extent of all commercial soybean crops (> 1 ha) in Queensland, in the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 growing seasons. The map of commercial soybean crops has established a ‘baseline’ of the current extent and distribution of production area across Queensland.
