Revealing the Early Triassic Vertebrates of Tasmania

  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery

Project Details

Description

This project aimed to explore the diversity of vertebrates from the Early Triassic of Tasmania, and in doing so, lead to (1) the preparation and curation of fossils housed in the TMAG zoology collections, (2) the generation of academic- and student-led publications, (3) a digital 3D library of Triassic fossils, (4) the collection of new fossils adding to the TMAG collection, and (5) the establishment of a virtual (and possibly physical) fossil display to reveal the fossil heritage of Tasmania on the national and international stage. Furthermore, this proposal was developed in collaboration with TMAG Senior Curator Dr David Hocking, laying the foundation for a sustained collaborative project. Outcomes of this project have thus far led to further funding from UNE, laid the foundation for an ongoing relationship with Tasmanian government and aboriginal collaborations, and a Master of Science Project, currently underway.
