Project Details
Description
This project investigated phosphorus uptake dynamics in subterranean clover by considering the competitive ability of the legume when grown with constituent pasture grasses, and the influence of phosphorus acquisition/utilisation efficiency on atmospheric N-fixation. Key questions included how subterranean clover cultivars adjust root morphology to compete with grasses, how critical phosphorus requirements are influenced by interspecific competition and defoliation/regrowth, and how N-fixation is influenced by phosphorus uptake dynamics. A greater understanding of these factors is expected to help improve phosphorus management in southern grazing systems.
