Project Details

Description

Shipping containers are considered a high-risk pathway for transporting biosecurity threats (pests, plant and disease) into Australia. It is therefore essential that biosecurity entities have a good understanding of the major ports were containers enter the country and the subsequent major holding depots where containers are stored. This project trials the accuracies of remote sensing and associated analytics for identifying where high concentrations of shipping containers are located within urban environments. The project would provide recommendations for scaling up the methodology for the national detection of containers that would serve as a vital tool for coordinating targeted surveillance in the future.
The project will assist DAWE in biosecurity preparedness and response, by providing a better understanding of the location of shipping containers within urban environments.
