Project Details

Description

The Australian Acoustic Observatory (A2O) is a unique piece of digital research infrastructure encompassing over 350 solar powered acoustic recorders distributed across Australia to record the sounds of vocal animals including birds, frogs, some mammals and insects. The A2O monitors biodiversity even when people aren’t around, it records natures heartbeat. The data is uploaded to a website (www.acousticobservatory.org) where it is analysed using AI. The data reveals important patterns of where animals occur and how their distribution is changing. The data is freely available to everyone for science, education and enjoyment.
