Biographical Details
Robert is an applied statistician, mathematician and data scientist, primarily interested in using data and models to solve complex problems in industrial and biological applications. He grew up in North Queensland, before moving to Brisbane to complete a Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematics and Statistics. Robert completed his PhD in 2014 at the University of Queensland, using genetic data to estimate how often dugongs move between different habitat patches. Subsequently he worked at the University of Adelaide analysing data around the transport of invasive species, and the spread of epidemics; and then in the Biological Data Science Institute at the Australian National University before moving to UNE in 2022.
His recent work has focussed on mathematical and statistical modelling in a variety of applied and industrial situations, alongside collaborators in environmental science, agriculture, mathematics, and computer science.
