Biographical Details

Dr Rajesh Thapa has a PhD that he completed in 2016 from the University of New England. His PhD research advanced our understanding of complex systems theory as applied to floodplain vegetation changes in different moisture regimes of semi-arid floodplain landscape. Not only did this research provide new models for understanding vegetation productivity in highly variable climatic regions, but it also developed a new framework with which to study these systems. Dr Thapa was awarded the Griffith Taylor Cent Prize for excellence PhD dissertation in the field of Geography and contributing to Australian Geography.
 
Furthermore, Dr Thapa has over 15+ years’ progressive experiences in supporting the delivery of spatial information, mapping to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, Hindu Kush Himalayan Region, including part of Danube River basin. He has extensively used science and application of GIS and remote sensing technologies in understanding change in plant community, land use land cover change monitoring, environmental impact assessment including biodiversity, vegetation condition modelling and biomass or productivity mapping, Saving Our Species Environmental Niche Modelling and landscape and basin scale Ecological connectivity and carrying capacity modelling.
